All the puppies come when they are called. We just call "pup-pup-pup" and everyone comes
running. even our adult dogs! New owners just have to change their puppy's name. Remember, never call your dog to you
and scold him/her. He will be unwilling to come the next time. We encourage our dogs to walk on our left hand side by
only using that hand to pet them as we walk. It helps that I am a lefty! When we put on their leashes they usually don't notice
the difference. We encourage new owners to walk their puppies around their house and yard encouraging them, by petting, to
walk on the left while they are still too young to go for walks in the outside world. Puppies do not need to go for walks
until they are much older, they need to sleep. I never take my dogs out of my yard until they are sixteen weeks and all shots
are completed and allowed to become effective. It is always important to remember that the puppies are babies. You wouldn't expect
a baby to go for a long walk, would you? Socializing should begin with meeting your friends, car rides to the park, (avoiding
dog parks. where they could pick up an infection from other, less cared for dogs) and learning the word NO. That is the
most important word. It means what ever they are doing must cease. Teach your puppy to sit beside you when you open
the front door, they must learn not to run outside when you open it. (Many dogs get killed or lost this way) This will teach
them, as adults, to protect you should some stranger come to your door. The word NO should be used sharply, with a deep
voice, so it sounds like a growl. You are the new pack leader for your puppy, he should learn to respect you as well
as love you. Allow your puppy to bark but excessive barking becomes annoying. Use the word NO but if that is not enough, spray
water in the dogs face. HE/she will soon get the message.
