Pebbles' puppies continue to grow bigger and become more playful and adventurous. They have all learned
to come to me when i call Pup-pup-pup and I reward them with fresh food and milk. It will be easy for their new families to
substitute their litter call name with their individual names. The weather has been very cold so teaching them to go potty
outside was interrupted for a week. Now it is a little warmer I feed them outside in a covered dog run. When they have finished
eating and dinking they usually go potty before coming back inside. This is the beginning of housetraining but, of cause,
like very young babies they have accidents and cannot quite make it overnight when they must be locked in from
dusk to about nine am and the day has warmed up a little.
All puppies are born with at
least a few worms and this week the puppies had the first of two doses of worming medicine. It was a big week for them because
they also had their first clip and their first bath. They were very well behaved, each suffering the process uncomplaining.
Clipping their faces confirmed that all the puppies will be silver colored. Silvers are born black and clipping their faces
short, revealed silver faces. Each puppy had a warm bath and had their hair blown dry.
Pebbles
is no longer feeding the puppies. It is important to wean them from their mother's milk before giving the puppies their first
shot at six weeks. The mother's milk contains antibodies and these, although no longer strong enough to give protection to
the puppies, can inhibit the effectiveness of the shot. Pebbles was happy not to be feeding them any more, because the
puppies now have teeth!
