PUPPIES 2009 "Just one
more litter..."
Again we have been asked to have "one more litter" by people who have had dogs from us in the past and want
to have another, related pet. Shadow, Corbacho Spirit of the Future, is a daughter of our beloved stud and retired therapy
dog, Merlin, Corbacho Silver Enterprise. Shadow completed our stringent health tests last year and we spent time, carefully
searching for a healthy, suitable husband for her. Paris, American and Canadian Champion Seacrest Sauvidad was chosen and
they actually spent a night, in a hotel, in Oregon! The result was a beautiful
litter of ten healthy babies born November 30, 2009. There are six boys, (three of them cream, like Shadow's grandfather
our handsome Polar) and four girls. The girls and the remaining three boys will be either silver (light gray) or blue
(charcoal gray). All our puppies are born equal in size unless we specifically breed to European lines
to obtain some smaller sized puppies. The French call these puppies Caniches. Both Shadow and Paris are regular sized standard
poodles. We do not breed to produce one perfect show dog. Our aim is always to produce full litters of healthy,
intelligent dogs that have longevity. We do not have litters with "runts" in them. An obvious runt is showing
externally a weakness. We believe this shows a problem with the gene pool. Other puppies in the litter that
might appear normal could have hidden defects. As puppies grow they will change. Some may have a growth spurt one week
and some another, the boys will develop heavier bone structures than the girls and there will be other differences, just
like in human families. We spend a lot of time researching and testing to produce our healthy dogs so to protect
our reputation and to ensure the future health of the breed, all our dogs are sold contracted not to be bred from. Dog breeding
is not for the inexperienced or unethical.
Most countries of the world have banned the amputating of tails and dew claws. We follow
this trend.
People who have seen our dogs have all been supportive of our decision.
The dogs agree and delight in having tails to wag! We are now accepting non-refundable deposits
of $250 for this litter. The choice of puppy is given in order of the receipt of the deposit. We do not choose a puppy for
you unless specifically asked to do so. We do recommend allowing the puppy to "choose" its new family. We are often asked about the differences between males and females. In some breeds these are significant
but having owned the breed for more than half a century, yes, I am really that old, and having owned both genders I find very
little difference between them except sometimes the male has a preference for women and a female has a preference for men.
Housebreaking is exactly the same as boys squat like girls until they reach doggy puberty. No, males do not need to mark
their territory every few minutes, any more than human males do. I recommend teaching all puppies to use a specific area of
your yard to make clean up easy. When the male pup matures and raises his leg, he will be pleased to have something to
raise it against. All my dogs are taught not to go to the bathroom while on the leash unless told to. I, personally,
am not in favor of little plastic bags that can actually preserve their contents but I do believe in keeping our streets and
parks clean.
