The puppies have now grown little teeth and are chewing on each other, their blanket, soft toys and my fingers!
They are able to run and climb. Each time I bring them food and milk, I call pup-pup-pup and they are learning to come
when I call them. Lola leads them outside, when she goes to potty and the puppies are imitating her. When the puppies go to
their new homes they will already have completed some important training. This week the puppies will begin to have times away
from Lola. Baby animals, in the wild, are left alone while their parents hunt. The puppies have very sharp, hooked claws and
these are trimmed regularly so Lola isn't uncomfortable when her babies are nursing.
At four weeks the puppies
are wormed for the for the first time. All puppies are born with worms passed from their mother. Worms can be passed to humans
so it is important not to let puppies lick faces, especially lips. We usually worm the puppies several times bit we also reccomend
they are wormed one more time when they go to their new homes. Puppies can recontaminate each other when they are playing.
The
puppies usually play for periods of twenty minutes then fall asleep. Like little children, they can be seen fighting
the need for sleep. They often begin trembling then just fall over, asleep.
