We are always happy when people come back for another of our Corbacho Standard Poodles, it
means that they have had a good experience owning their first one. We are fortunate that most owners keep in touch with
us and update us on their dogs throughout their long lives. Many of our poodles return to us for vacation visits. We
always enjoy this and are always delighted that they seem to recognize us and their relatives immediately. Some owners swear
they know our exit off the freeway! Seeing our "babies" at different stages of their lives reassures us that we
are still breeding healthy dogs with good temperments, brains and beauty.
Contary
to ugly rumor, we are not a puppy mill or a puppy farm. We are people who breed for love of the breed. We have never relied
on puppy sales for an income. We breed only when enough people specifically ask for our dogs to make it affordable. Healthy
puppies cost money. It is expensive to have our breeding dogs health tested and it is expensive to correctly feed pregnant
mothers and their babies. We never have more than two litters in one year and we often do not have any. WE CHOOSE TO
NO LONGER SUBJECT OURSELVES OR OUR DOGS TO THE SHOW EXPERIENCE. In England, The Royal Society for the Prevention
of Cruely to Animals is no longer represented at the Crufts dog show because they are opposed to breed standards that are
contary to the good health and well being of dogs. These standards are mostly duplicated in this country. Poodles are not
high on the list of dogs that are bred cruelly but we have all seen poodles with stained, runny eyes (entropia), poodles
that hop because they suffer from slipped patellas, poodles lame with hip displasia and the most recent, ignored problem,
poodles dying prematurely because they are born with abnormal or missing kidneys (Juvenile Renal Disease). I
repeat that we, like most European countries and England no longer subject our dogs to the amputation of their tails and dew
claws merely for fashion (If dew claws were so hazardous natural selection would have removed them generations ago).
I have bred standard poodles for more than 50 years. While living in England I was trained in veterinary
nursing. I was employed by a city in Cambridgeshire, England as a dog trainer. I have owned my own boarding kennels
and grooming business (because no where was good enough for our own dogs). I had a pet shop that sold the finest healthy,
gourmet dog foods. (We never sold cats or dogs) I trained therapy dogs which is why, after coming to America, I became
a psychotherapist with a Masters Degree. I have an extensive knowledge of genetics. These skills and experiences make me a
breeder of healthy dogs. If we come across any health problem in our dogs we work to eliminate it, not ignore it. All of our
dogs are sold subject to neutering.
Our dogs are NEVER subjected to crates. If
they are not sharing our house, they spend time in one, of the only four, indoor/outdoor kennels. They have
a total 20 feet length of exercise area. Our outdoor areas are five feet wide, the indoor areas between four and six
feet wide. The indoor areas are climate controlled. Our dogs have comfy beds and clean blankets. They have continuous
fresh food and water. They even have a radio playing their favorite music during the day. Our kennels are always clean and
available for inspection. All our dogs have daily free exercise periods, that they share with us, when they run and play together
in our 20 acres of land. Our dogs are bathed and groomed often but they are allowed to have fun getting dirty! A healthy dog
is a happy dog. A happy dog is a healthy dog.
